Chibas achievements

We have developed sorghum varieties resistant to aphids (dwarf sweet, photoperiodic) that are capable of fixing nitrogen from the air, and we are currently working on high-protein (14%) varieties. We have also developed sweet potatoes that are rich in vitamin A and resistant to weevils, as well as small mechanization technologies for cereals and legumes. Thanks to our partnerships with UGA and our colleagues in Senegal, we have selected early peanut varieties resistant to leaf Read more…

Chibas – Research & Extension

transforming Haiti’s agriculture Our research activities are at the core and heart of our program.  Applied, Goal Oriented, Hypothesis Driven (GoHy) research allows us to build our research programs with a clear vision and development goals that drive our research.  Our research is both meant to help transform Haiti economically and socially, but also to teach our students how to become problem solvers and good engineers, identifying the problem, and developing and testing solutions.

Our Founder

Gael Pressoir, PhD, is the founder of Chibas, the Haitian Center for Innovation in Biotechnology and Sustainable Agriculture. Gael Pressoir is an applied plant breeder. His current crop science research portfolio goes far beyond the traditional disciplinary delineation seen in typical plant breeding programs, which clearly indicates his awareness that replicating the conventional “northern” research model would not serve Haiti as effectively. Gael Pressoir continues to expand the footprint of its research programs and the Read more…
